What does it mean if your vehicle receives a recall notice? If you've ever received a vehicle recall, you may be wondering what steps you need to take. Our team here at Mitchell Volkswagen in Canton, CT has the basics for you below.
There are two types of recalls, one from the manufacturer and the other from the NHTSA. A recall is sent out to fix a safety defect that's been identified by the manufacturer or the safety board. In most situations, the manufacturer will voluntarily conduct a recall and the NHTSA doesn't have to be involved.
Most of these defects have to do with the safety of the vehicle whether it's the seats, tires, equipment, or the vehicle itself. The manufacturer will either repair or replace the problem component to resolve the recall. In some situations, the manufacturer may need to offer a refund or repurchase the vehicle if the recall can't fix the issue.
